What’s the news? Cricket Wireless and Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) have teamed-up to give families a reason to smile this holiday season through Cricket’s annual 12 Days of Cricket holiday giving campaign. The campaign, which launches November 15th in conjunction with World Kindness Day, will surprise BGCA families across the country with gifts valued up to $5,000. Approximately, 20 families in 18 markets will benefit from this year’s campaign.

Why does it matter? Over the last 18 months, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in extreme hardship for many families as the country grapples with the pandemic and record unemployment. Together with the BGCA, Cricket wants to make a difference in the lives of families by providing gifts and financial support to help overcome the economic hurdles standing in the way of their health and happiness during the festive season.

BGCA’s mission is to enable young people to reach their full potential, and this has become even more important in a time where most families are navigating additional challenges due to the pandemic. The BGCA has had to double down on efforts to support kids and families with assistance from organizations like Cricket.  “We are committed to bring our youth and their families their next great moment this holiday season," said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  “We are so thankful to Cricket Wireless for supporting our mission to help kids and teens reach their full potential and are excited to provide them with a surprise moment they will never forget.”

Why is Cricket Involved? Cricket is committed to building healthy human connections for happier youth. Through initiatives like 12 Days of Cricket, we are able to support young people and their families by fostering kindness and providing resources to help them overcome challenging times.

"The pandemic has caused a level of unparalleled hardship for many," said John Dwyer, president, Cricket Wireless. "By collaborating with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we hope these gifts will give families something to smile about this holiday season and the opportunity to focus on what matters most, spending time with each other."

This year, Cricket is also helping to raise funds for the BGCA through a cause marketing campaign during the period November 15 – December 20.  Cricket is encouraging staff, collaborators, and customers to join them in this initiative by donating at  https://www.bgca.org/cricket.  HBCU students who are a part of Cricket’s Campus Ambassador Program will also be bringing cheer to students and faculty on several campuses.

What else? Cricket and the BGCA renewed their collaboration for the 2021-22 academic year. We will work with the BGCA to implement programs in five key markets Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and San Jose. The initiatives for this year will focus on digital and financial literacy, on-going mentorship between HBCU students and BGCA teens, and summer learning programs.
